Dan

Mickey didn't work out - but this one is Dan. He's a keeper - we wrote the check last week. It was a little uncertain for a while - Dan's a ranch horse, and he wasn't so sure about the arena, but he seems to be showing some true colors now and we're pretty impressed with him. We had him up at the rodeo grounds last Thursday for "4H kids horse night" and he behaved like a prince - and LOTS of the other horses up there were NOT behaving, so it was good to see him in that environment.
The little sorrel that Buck is riding here was a tryer-outer. Nice little horse, but not quite a match. Anyway - introducing: Dan... with Megan off into the sunset.

Peep!

The result of our largely unsuccessful attempt at hatching eggs - having them shipped in in March was a bad idea, it appears. Of course, the week before they shipped the temps were in the 20s, but dipped down to -11 the week of shipping. So - the sole survivor and only hatchling. It peeped pitifully until Meg donated a stuffed animal to keep it company, which helped considerably. Since the incubation took place Jennifer's kindergarten room, the chick will live there a week or two as a class pet. And - it needs a name!!

So - A name contest!!
We'll compile entries from this blog and from the kindergarten room and pick a name next week. Enter in the comments - as many times as you like, only rule is that it must be gender non-specific, as we won't know sex until it crows or lays eggs. (I'm not very good at telling.)
Thanks - can't wait to hear your ideas!!! The baby is getting tired of being called "peep", I think!

Introducing...

Mickey.
Trying him out - so far, Mom and Dad like him. We'll see if he gets a thumbs up or down from Cody and Carla - our horse mentors. Price is right - age is right (18) attitude is right - he's sweet and friendly. He was VERY willing to step out for Buck, though. I certainly didn't worry that an 18 year old ex-dude horse would be too much horse for Meg, but he's quite a bit more lively than I expected. Fresh off winter pasture, though, so we'll see what time brings. So far, we're pleasantly surpised.

Posted by Picasa

Big surprise for Joe today! Hard to find some dirt to try it out on, though.

Joe's Birthday part one - Ski Hill

The "Sonny Korfanta Fun Race" was on Joe's birthday - we had an awesome day on the hill. Beautiful weather, wonderfully well organized and smooth running race, all kids got a medal - great event. We had a ball.
